The History of Roulette

roullete

Roulette is a casino game where players place chips on a table and watch the wheel spin. They can choose to bet on single numbers, various groupings of numbers, odd or even, or high or low.

The roulette wheel has pockets numbered from 1 to 36 and alternately colored red and black, with an extra green zero slot on American tables. Players can also make announced bets.

Origin

The origin of roulette isn’t clearly defined, although it has been speculated that Roman soldiers played a game that was similar to modern-day roulette. This game involved spinning shields that had symbols on them and betting on the symbol that would stop in front of an arrow. However, there isn’t enough evidence to prove that this is the case. It is also possible that roulette was based on the games hoca and portique, which were combined with the wheel from an Italian game called Biribi to create a new gambling game. It was eventually introduced to the world in the 18th century and quickly became popular in Paris casinos.
